TOZER SEMINARY, THE GRADUATE THEOLOGICAL DIVISION OF SIMPSON UNIVERSITY IN REDDING, CALIFORNIA IS HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE ITS CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY PROGRAM WILL BE OFFERED IN THE L.A. BASIN BEGINNING SPRING 2023.

WHAT:  The Certificate in Christian Ministry program is a 30-credit (10 course) ministry training program designed to meet licensure requirements within the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination.  The first course (Spring 2023) will be a Survey of the Old Testament.

WHO:  Any individual desiring more Bible knowledge and/or seeking to meet the required academic courses to meet C&MA credentialing requirements.

WHERE:  New Life Christian Alliance Church (11000 First Ave., Whittier CA)

WHEN: The First Saturday of January, February, March, April (9:00 AM to 3:30 PM) 

            (Specific dates: 1/7, 2/4, 3/4, and 4/1)

LEAD TEACHER FOR THE FIRST COURSE:  Rev. Gary E. Tangeman, D.Min. (Other C&MA teachers and leaders will be involved in these courses.)

LANGUAGE: This initial course is in English, but Tozer is open to teaching these courses in other languages as need in the future.

COST FOR CREDITS: Tuition is $525 per credit plus fees; each course is three credits

COST FOR AUDIT STUDENTS: Cost is $200 per course

Certificate in Christian Ministry (30 credits) 

This certificate level training program meets basic ministerial requirements; it is offered by A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary, a school within Simpson University in Redding, California. The program moves an individual towards ministry licensure requirements within the Christian & Missionary Alliance.  This program meets the minimum 30 credit educational requirement of the Manual of the Christian & Missionary Alliance from an accredited institution. 

The courses listed below are recommended, and may be adjusted based on consultation with the dean regarding your specific ministry goals and the needs of the district.  

Bible Criteria 

BI 6010 Survey of the Old Testament 3 credits 

BI 6020 Survey of the New Testament 3 credits 

BI 6005 Biblical Interpretation 3 credits 

BI xxxx Bible OR Theology Elective 3 credits  

BI xxxx Bible Elective 3 credits 

Theology Criteria 

TH 6050 Introduction to Theology 3 credits 

ML 6030 Alliance Ministry 3 credits 

Ministry Skills Criteria 

DM 6000 Spiritual Formation & Discipleship 3 credits 

DM 6050 Evangelism & Community Engagement 3 credits 

ML 6045 Pastoral Leadership OR 3 credits (one of the 3 courses listed) 

CO 6100 Preaching the Word OR 

CN 6200 Principles of Counseling 

Licensing within the C&MA is supervised by each local district. While these credits meet the minimum educational requirements, other requirements exist for licensing. Please consult with your district office for additional information regarding its Licensing, Ordination, & Consecration Committee protocols and requirements. 

Because of the biblical components within Spiritual Formation, Discipleship, Evangelism, Pastoral Leadership, and Theology, the seminary believes we adequately offer 18 credits of Bible to meet one of the criteria for licensure within the C&MA.
